The "NYS&W Rehabilitation" is a study of the work that the New York, Susquehanna & Western RR did during the summer of 1986 to reopen their line between Sparta Jct and Butler. It is merely my capture on film of what you would have seen had you been able to spend several hours each week watching the behind-the-scenes activities of men reopening a railroad.
I devote a lot of footage to the details that you don't always get a chance to see. I have run-bys of many of the work trains spread throughout to brighten the pace. Most of the phases of the rebuild as well as most of the equipment used have been covered. Most of the reconstruction footage was shot between Sparta and Franklin, NJ. The Sea-Land run-bys were shot at various locations between Port Jervis, NY., and Smiths Mills, near Butler, NJ.
In the opening scenes you'll see two rail heads buried in the pavement at Houses Corner Road on May 10, 1986. These are the old rails leading west to the connection with the former Lehigh & Hudson River at Sparta Jct. As this 2-volume, 4-hour program draws to a close, this location will be a beehive of activity, as efforts are made to cut the new connection loop through this road, and resurface both the railway and roadway, on the final two days before the first Sea-Land train, eastbound NY-10, is scheduled to traverse Sparta Mountain, October 18, 1986.
(Run time: 4 hours.) Total price for 2-tape set is $39.00 postpaid to USA.
